The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired left-hander Travis Bergen from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for cash considerations.
Bergen, 27, has appeared in parts of five minor league seasons, posting a cumulative ERA of 1.69 across 79 appearances.
Bergen was originally selected by the Blue Jays in the seventh round of the 2015 MLB draft, but the club lost the 6-foot-1 product of McDonough, Ga., to the San Francisco Giants in the 2018 Rule 5 draft.
The Giants later returned Bergen to Toronto after he got into 21 games and recorded an ERA of 5.49 through 19 2/3 innings of work in 2019.
Bergen was sent to the Diamondbacks as part of the Robbie Ray deal in 2020, but was designated for assignment by the club on Friday.
To clear a spot on the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster, RHP Patrick Murphy was placed on the 60-day IL with a sprained right A/C joint.
