TORONTO - A day removed from making his Major League debut during Toronto's 11-5 loss to the New York Yankees on Wednesday, RHP Taylor Cole has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right fifth toe fracture.
In a corresponding move, fellow righty Chris Smith has been recalled from triple-A Buffalo.
With the majority of his 2017 season spent in Buffalo, the 6-foot-2 Louisville, Ky., native has pitched to an overall ERA of 4.10 with 22 strikeouts and only three walks over 26 1/3 minor league innings
Smith, who made his Major League debut earlier this season against the Baltimore Orioles, has allowed two earned runs over his last five appearances with the Bisons. Thursday's callup will mark his third stint with the Blue Jays this season.
Having been struck by a sharp comebacker off the bat of Didi Gregorius in the Yankees' half of the ninth on Wednesday, Cole becomes the 12th Blue Jays hurler to land on the DL this season.
SKED SWITCH
Originally scheduled for a 1:07 p.m. ET start, the Blue Jays September 9th tilt against the Detroit Tigers has been rescheduled for 4:07 p.m. ET due to other broadcast commitments.
