TORONTO - With Cesar Valdez unable to answer the call after landing on the 10-day disabled list with a shoulder impingement on Tuesday, the Toronto Blue Jays have called up RHP Nick Tepesch to start Wednesday's tilt against the New York Yankees at Rogers Centre.

Tepesch will assume Matt Dermody's spot on the Blue Jays' 25-man roster as the left-handed reliever was optioned back to triple-A Buffalo.

Needing to clear a spot for their newly recruited starter on the 40-man roster, shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (ankle) has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

A product of 44 major league appearances dating back to his rookie campaign in 2013, Tepesch has started 41 games in the Show and owns a cumulative 4.69 ERA across 224 2/3 innings.

Acquired from the Twins in exchange for cash considerations on July 23, the 28-year-old Kansas native joins the Blue Jays having posted an overall WHIP of 1.393 with 137 strikeouts against 73 walks during a big league career that includes stops in Texas, Los Angeles, and Minnesota.

The former 14th-round draft pick has looked sharp over a sample-sized showing since joining the Blue Jays organization, striking out seven and allowing four runs on ten hits in 12 innings with the Bisons.

Through three separate stints with the Blue Jays thus far in 2017, Dermody has allowed eight runs on four hits over four innings of work. Four of those eight hits have left the yard.
