Blue Jays send Turner to Mariners

The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired OF RJ Schreck from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for INF Justin Turner and cash considerations.

Schreck, 24, has appeared in 86 games between High-A Everett and double-A Arkansas this season, batting .250 with 21 doubles, a triple, 12 home runs, 45 RBIs, 61 walks, a .392 OBP, and an .836 OPS. The left-handed hitter was selected by the Mariners in the ninth round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft out of Vanderbilt University. The outfielder, a native of Los Angeles, Calif., has played a total of 113 career minor league contests, hitting .252 with 28 doubles, a triple, 14 home runs, 58 RBIs, a 14.8% walk rate, a 13.5% strikeout rate, and an .810 OPS.

Turner, 39, has made 90 appearances for the Blue Jays this season, hitting .257 with 17 doubles, six home runs, and 31 RBIs for a .724 OPS. The Long Beach, Calif., native was selected by the Reds in the seventh round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, eventually making his major league debut for the Orioles in 2009. Over the course of 16 big league seasons and 1,629 MLB games, the 5-foot-11, 208-pound right-handed hitter owns a .286 batting average and an .823 OPS with 340 doubles, nine triples, 193 home runs, and 790 RBIs. Turner has twice been named an All-Star (2017, 2021), was the NLCS MVP in 2017, and won a World Series title with the Dodgers in 2020. In addition to his on-field success, the 39-year-old has been nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award on five occasions, winning the prestigious award in 2022.
