TORONTO -- The Toronto Blue Jays and free agent infielder Eric Sogard have come to terms on a minor league deal that comes with an invite to big league camp next spring.

Sogard, 32, slashed .134/.241/.165 across 113 plate appearances with Milwaukee in 2018, serving as a utility infielder and occasional outfielder for the NL Central-leading Brew Crew.

Through parts of eight big league seasons, six of which were with the Oakland A’s from 2010 to 2015, the former second-round draft pick has posted an OPS of .623 while spending the majority of his time at second base.

Just two seasons removed from posting one of his strongest offensive showings at the major league level (.273/.393/.398 over 98 games), the left-handed swinging Sogard will serve as a low-risk roll of the dice for the Blue Jays, who continue to place emphasis on surrounding their top-level prospects with veteran talent.
