Blue Jays sign Gowdy, Stefanic, invite them to spring training

The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to terms with the following free agents on minor league contracts with invites to 2025 Major League Spring Training:

RHP Kevin Gowdy

Stefanic, 28, appeared in 40 games for the Angels in 2024, while playing another 40 games with their triple-A affiliate in Salt Lake where he slashed .389/.456/.510 with 15 extra-base hits, a .417 wOBA, a 10.4% walk rate, and an 8.7% strikeout rate. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound infielder was signed by the Halos as an undrafted free agent in 2018 out of Westmont College, eventually making his MLB debut for the club in 2022. The right-handed hitter from Boise, Idaho, has played a total of 90 MLB games with the Angels across three seasons, batting .232 with nine extra-base hits and 14 RBIs.

Gowdy, 27, spent the 2024 season with the Dodgers’ triple-A team in Oklahoma City, posting a 4.38 ERA with a 10% walk rate, a 19.5% strikeout rate, a 29.7% chase rate, and a 65.4% groundball rate over 42 appearances. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound right-handed reliever was selected by the Phillies in the second round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft. Over 153 career minor league contests (40 starts), the Santa Barbara, Calif., native has gone 12-19 with a 5.18 ERA between the Phillies, Rangers, and Dodgers systems.
