In addition to finalizing a pair of minor-league transactions with 1B Tyler White and OF Forest Wall, the Toronto Blue Jays announced on Friday that they have completed a minor league deal with INF Richard Urena.
Initially signed by the Blue Jays as an amateur free agent in 2012, Urena, 24, has slashed .270/.311/.394 throughout 680 minor league games since breaking into pro ball as a 17-year-old.
After appearing in parts of three seasons at the major league level with the Blue Jays, including a 40-game stint in which he hit .293 in 99 at bats in 2018, the switch-hitting product of San Francisco de Macoris, D.R. was claimed off waivers by the Baltimore Orioles last January. Passing through waivers a month later, the versatile infielder never ended up in Baltimore's 60-man player pool for the shortened 2020 campaign.
Like White and Wall, Urena's deal comes with an invite to big league camp next February.
