It’s an exciting time of year. As the days get longer into May, the time remaining in the college baseball regular season is dwindling. Canadians are looking to capitalize on their remaining games and postseason opportunities.

Let’s take a look at the stars from the past week.

Lichty hits five home runs, named Crossroads League Player of the Week

Daniel Lichty (Denfield, Ont.) provided the spark to the Huntington Foresters offence with five home runs in seven games last week. Lichty had 10 hits, seven walks 12 RBIs and two stolen bases to lead his crew to a 6-1 record to close the regular season. His performance led the Crossroads League to name him their Player of the Week. In 45 games in 2021, he hit .358 with eight home runs, a .428 on-base percentage and a .594 slugging percentage. The Foresters enter the conference tournament as the No. 3 seed after a 31-14 (23-13 conference) record. They’ll take on No. 6 seed Marian in the tournament opener.

Scott named to All-Appalachian Athletic Conference Second Team

Bryan College Lion Tyler Scott (Calgary, Alta.) was named to the All-Appalachian Athletic Conference Second Team after posting a .356 average with six home runs, 30 RBIs, a .429 on-base percentage, a .580 slugging percentage and 14 stolen bases in 2021. Scott’s finished fourth in all of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics in doubles with 21 and 34th in assists with 106.

Williams takes home Atlantic Sun honour

The week for Malik Williams (Toronto, Ont.) and Lipscomb University began with a 4-1 upset win at No. 4 Tennessee. Williams hit a double, walked and drove in a run against the Volunteers. Over the weekend the Bisons took on North Alabama in a three-game set and Williams recorded eight hits, two walks and two RBIs. The opener was his best game, as he went 4-for-5. The big week earned Williams the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week.

Pringle named Freshman of the Week

Two scoreless appearances for Hawaii Pacific earned Gavin Pringle (Duncan, BC) PacWest Freshman of the Week honours. Pringles first outing came in a 5-4 win over Hawaii Hilo when he lasted three innings. He allowed two hits and struck out two to net the win. He picked up the win again against Hawaii Hilo in Game 5. The right worked 1 2/3 innings and gave up one hit. He punched out three to move to 3-1.

Tucker named MAAC Co-Player of the Week

Cole Tucker (Mount Pearl, Nfld.) led the charge on the road for the Niagara Purple Eagles as they visited Manhattan. Tucker went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and was hit by a pitch in a close 5-4 loss in Game 1. He had a hit in a 10-6, Game 2 win, before going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three stolen bases in an 8-5 win in Game 3. The final game of the series went the way of the Jaspers by a 15-8 score, but the pride of Newfoundland was excellent in the loss. He went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run to open the scoring in the first inning. For his stellar play, he was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Co-Player of the Week.

Chester named SWAC Pitcher of the Week

Fynn Chester (Victoria, BC) and the Salt Lake Community College were off last week but that didn’t stop the right-hander from getting in the news. Chester was named the Scenic West Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance over Utah State Eastern the week before. Chester struck out 12 over seven innings and picked up the win for the Bruins.

Palmagiani takes home award

The Top Male Athlete at the College of Southern Nevada award was given to Damiano Palmegiani (Surrey, BC) and it’s hard to argue. Palmegiani batted .396 with 19 home runs, 62 RBIs and 13 stolen bases for the Coyotes baseball team.

Huggins and Lussier red hot for Redbirds

Aiden Huggins (Edmonton, Alta.) and Jordan Lussier (Winnipeg, Man.) played well for the Illinois State Redbirds.

Huggins had seven hits, three walks, and five RBIs in five games played. He hit a two-run home run in a 12-0 midweek win over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The power continued in a 12-3, Game 2 win over Valparaiso when he hit a three-run shot.

Lussier picked up his sixth win of the season when Illinois State defeated Valparaiso in Game 2 of their series. Lussier scattered seven hits over six innings and allowed a pair of runs in victory. He walked three and struck out 11 to improve to 6-2.

Borman blasts a home run

It was a showdown between two prominent Division II teams in Arkansas over the weekend. Dylan Borman (Camrose, Alta.) hit two doubles and drove in a run for Arkansas Monticello in a 4-3, Game 1 win over Southern Arkansas. Borman left the yard for a two-run home run in a 6-2 win in Game 2. He went 3-for-4 for the Weevils but they couldn’t secure the sweep as the Muleriders took the finale 8-4.

Magill hits three homers, including grand slam

Evan Magill (Ajax, Ont.) blasted three home runs for the Monroe Community College Tribunes last week. One was a grand slam to break a 6-6 tie in an 11-9 win over Erie. In that victory over the Kats he finished 4-for-5 with six RBIs. He also torched Herkimer for homers in Games 1 and 4 of their series. When the dust settled, he had eight hits, two walks and 11 RBIs in six games.

Chaput shines in 3-1 week

Sam Chaput (Boisbriand, Que.) collected seven hits, including three, two-hit games for the Emporia State Hornets last week. Chaput hit a solo home run in the Hornets’ 13-3 win in Game 3 against Fort Hays State. He also walked twice, drove in four and a stole a base as his squad won 3-of-4.

Jackson strikes out 21

No, 21 strikeouts was not a typo, and yes it was in one game. Corey Jackson (Calgary, Alta.) tossed a complete game, nine innings as the Bellevue Bruins downed Waldorf 11-6 in the opener of their final series of the regular season. Jackson allowed the six runs on five hits and struck out 21 of the 28 outs he recorded. He finished the season with a 7-3 record with a 2.35 ERA and 136 punch outs in 88 innings pitched.

Keller a force for Grizzlies

Griffin Keller (Pilot, Butte, Sask.) has powered No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett all season long, so why would this past week be any different. Keller stroked 12 hits, walked five times, drove in eight runs and swiped two bases. He went 4-for-5 with two RBIs in the Grizzlies 14-1 drubbing of Fisher. To close out the week, he contributed a 3-for-4 effort with a home run and three RBIs in a blowout win over Fisher.

Johnston, McCorrister lead Comets to sweep

A Canadian arm and bat played a pivotal role in Mayville State’s four-game sweep of Dickinson State.

Matthew Johnston (Cypress River, Man.) got the start in Game 4 and spun a complete game, seven innings in a 13-2 victory. Johnston allowed two runs on six hits and struck out four.

Jared McCorrister (Boissevain, Man.) started the series with a 2-for-3 game with a walk and stolen base in a 6-4 win. McCorrister had two more hits in a 6-5 win in Game 2 before collecting a hit in each of Games 3 and 4. He also walked and drove in a run in the final game of the series.

Caplett solid as Lyon refuses to lose

Dustin Caplett (Sundre, Alta.) was in the Lyon lineup for two of the four games against Hannibal-LaGrange. Caplett contributed a hit, a walk and two RBIs in the 15-2, Game 1 win. He was back in Game 4 with three hits, a walk, a RBI and a hit by pitch.

Martin proves useful for Yavapai

After a tough first two games of the week, Yavapai’s Daniel Martin (Langley, BC) righted the ship in a Saturday double dip with Eastern Arizona. In Game 1, Martin went 2-for-3 with a RBI in a 12-1 win. He was able to build on that performance and put together a 3-for-5 game with a home run and four RBIs in an 18-8 win in the back half.

Potter puts away East Central

Jacob Potter (Victoria, BC) threw 6 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on seven hits to help Southeastern Oklahoma State to a 9-2 victory in Game 1 against East Central. Potter punched out seven and move his record over .500 at 3-2.

Keys caps strong regular season

Lefty Travis Keys (London, Ont.) put a bow on a great regular season with a complete game, nine inning start as Aquinas dumped Cornerstone 4-2. Keys surrendered the two runs on six hits and struck out 12. He finishes the season 5-2 with a 2.61 ERA and 101 strikeouts in 62 innings.

Inouye has two, two-hit games

Adam Inouye (Vancouver, BC) amassed six hits and a RBI for the Academy of Arts in their 3-1 series loss to Concordia. The Academy of Arts had won three-of-four the previous weekend.

Bedard displays power and speed

Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Alex Bedard (Levis, Que.) is no one trick pony, just take his four games last week as an example. Bedard pounded out eight hits, two of which were home runs, walked twice, drove in five and stole three bases. His first long ball was a two-run shot in the Bulldogs’ 12-11, Game 1 loss to Northwestern State. He hit solo shot in the finale of that series, a 20-14 loss.

MacLeod goes seven

Mason MacLeod (Winnipeg, Man.) is right at home on the mound. MacLeod pitched seven innings and allowed one run in Itasca’s 9-5 win over Hibbing. He worked around eight hits and struck out four in the start.

Brown, Hull, O’Toole key to Reivers week

The No. 7 Iowa Western Reivers used strong showings from three Canadians on route to a 6-0 week.

Jaden Brown (Mississauga, Ont.) had five hits, a walk and four RBIs. One of his hits was a two-run home run in a 9-6 win over North Iowa Area.

Noah Hull (Scarborough, Ont.) was another contributor at the dish. Hull chipped in four hits and four RBIs for the Reivers.

Starting pitcher Evan O’Toole (Bridgewater, NS) is a big reason by the Reivers have been so successful. With a win over North Iowa Area, O’Toole is now 9-0 on the season. To get that ninth win, he worked five innings and conceded a pair of runs on six hits with a walk and six punch outs in Game 2 of the series.

Porcellato provides stability for Marian

Matteo Porcellato (Pitt Meadows, BC) has been a steady presence in Marian University’s lineup all year long and finished off the regular season with another good week. Porcellato totaled nine hits, five walks, five RBIs and four stolen bases in six games. He led the team in 2021 in average (.335), slugging percentage (.480) and stolen bases (16). The Knights head into the conference tournament with a 24-27 record (17-19 Crossroads League) and as the No. 6 seed. They will take on No. 3 Huntington in Game 1.

Simpson scoops five hits

Matt Simpson (Ladysmith, BC) went 3-for-5 with a RBI and a stolen base in Northland College’s 6-4 win over Marian. Simpson followed it up with a 2-for-4 game with a RBI in a 6-3 loss to Northwestern Minnesota.

McGarry-Doyle goes yard, McLaughlin gets back to .500

A pair of Canadian freshman came to play for the Southeastern Community College Blackhawks.

Noel McGarry-Doyle (Vaughan, Ont.) had 10 hits, including three long balls in six games played. McGarry-Doyle added on four walks and nine RBIs for good measure. He had a two-homer game in an 11-10 loss in Game 1 of the Blackhawks series with Northeast.

Freshman Duncan McLaughlin (Dartmouth, NS) pitched six innings of on- run baseball to help guide Southeastern to a 10-1 win over Southwestern. McLaughlin permitted five hits, walked two and struck out nine to earn the win. The right-hander is now 3-3 this season.

Jones hits three homers for Mineral Area Cardinals

A familiar name to this column is Ben Jones (Toronto, Ont.). Jones again was a standout for Mineral Area in six games this past week. He hit three home runs, including a pair in the Cardinals’ 3-1 series win over Three Rivers. The former Toronto Met finished with eight hits, four walks five RBIs and two stolen bases.

Marks wins his eighth of the season

Jordan Marks (Bright’s Grove, Ont.) limited Presbyterian to one run over seven innings as the USC Upstate Spartans cruised to an 8-1 win in Game 1 of a three-game set. Marks allowed seven hits, walked three and had a trio of strik outs as he moved to 8-1.

Five hits for NEO’s Ervin

Northeastern Oklahoma A&M took on Eastern Oklahoma State in a three-game series on Thursday and Friday. Jacob Ervin went 2-for-3 with a solo home run for the Norsemen in a 12-9 loss in Game 1. During an 11-4, Game 2 loss, Ervin had a hit and a walk. His side would salvage a game in the series with a 13-5 win in Game 3. The Canadian outfielder chipped in two hits and a RBI in the victory.

Lewis and Union wrap up regular season

Jordan Lewis (Brampton, Ont.) concluded his regular season with six hits, three walks, two RBIs and three stolen bases in four game for the Union Bulldogs. Union finishes with a 19-26 record and were 13-16 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play.

Parsons a pivotal piece for Cloud County

Dodge City pitchers couldn’t dodge the bat of Jaden Parsons (Vernon, BC) in their four-gamer. Parsons got things started with a 2-for-4 game with a RBI in a 5-2 win to open the series. In a 12-5, Game 2 win, he added two more hits, three RBIs and a hit by pitch. Game 3 saw him go 3-for-4 with a walk, a RBI and a stolen base in a 13-10 win. The T-Birds dropped Game 4 by a 13-12 score, but the former Okanagan Athletic hit a solo home run, walked and stole a base.

Leatham leaves after five

Tom Leatham (St. Albert, Alta.) supplied Marshalltown with five innings of work in an 8-7 loss to North Iowa Area. Leatham yielded four runs (two earned) on five hits. He walked four and struck out two in the loss. Marshalltown plated four in the top of the ninth to take a 7-5 lead, but coughed up three in the bottom half in the walk off defeat.

Millross toes the rubber twice

Michael Millross (Ottawa, Ont.) made his first appearance of the week in Elmira’s high scoring 17-12 loss to St. John Fisher. Millross worked two scoreless innings and gave up a hit and issued a walk. His next appearance came in the opener of their series with Houghton. Game 1 was a tight contest as Millross (Ottawa, Ont.) took the mound and threw 5 1/3 innings in a 2-1 loss. Millross, who took the loss, limited the opposition to two runs on five hits. He walked three and struck out four in his first decision of the year.

Carinci launches homer, has six hits

There was an offensive explosion in Manhattan, Kansas over the weekend and Daniel Carinci (Ajax, Ont.) helped supply the fuel. Carinci had six hits, including a two-run home run and six RBIs as the Kansas State Wildcats put up 47 runs in a three-game sweep of Texas Southern.

Brookman’s power on display against Purdue

Purdue pitchers should’ve pitched around Ohio State’s Archer Brookman (Pointe-Claire, Que.). Brookman blasted a solo shot and a two-run home run to go along with two walks and a hit by pitch in the Buckeyes’ 12-2, Game 2 win. He peppered the seats again in Game 3 with another two-run homer. He finished the finale 3-for-5. The Buckeyes took two-of-three from the Boilermakers.

Peters hits, again, again and again

Tristan Peters (Winkler, Man.) was hot offensively for the Southern Illinois Salukis. Over the course of five games, Peters stockpiled seven hits, two walks, four RBIs and two stolen bases. Of the seven knocks, four were for extra bases.

Wilson brings lively bat for Liberty

Seven hits and a 3-1 week, not bad for Jake Wilson and the Liberty Flames. Wilson also worked four walks, and drove in two for the Flames. His best day at the came in a 15-3 victory in Game 1 over Bellarmine when he went 3-for-4 with a walk and a RBI.

Duncan, Hicks power RedWolves past Austin Peay

Tyler Duncan (Sooke, BC) and Liam Hicks (Toronto, Ont.) of the Arkansas State RedWolves enjoyed walking to the batter’s box over the weekend against Austin Peay.

Duncan started with a 2-for-5 game with a walk and a RBI in a 12-7 win in the opener. He then hit a solo home run and went 3-for-5 with a walk and two RBIs in an 11-5, Game 2 win. To help secure the sweep, he had a hit and a RBI in a 9-4 win in the third game of the series.

Hicks was 3-for-4 with a walk, a RBI and a hit by pitch in Game 1. During Game 2, he went 2-for-5 with another hit by pitch. The Lawrence Park Collegiate grad tied together his series with a solo home run and a two-run home run in the final game. His solo home run opened the scoring to kick start the RedWolves’ offence. He finished the game with four RBIs.

Black, Piotto go off against Purdue Fort Wayne

Wright State put up 88 runs in a four-game series against Purdue Fort Wayne. Needless to say, they swept the set. Two Canadians had big time performances.

Tyler Black (Toronto, Ont.) gathered 11 hits, one of which was a two-run shot in a 22-2 win in Game 2. Black also walked twice, drove in eight and stole a base. The Raiders won Game 4 by a 29-6 score and the former Toronto Met was 5-for-7 with a walk and three RBIs.

Konnor Piotto (Abbotsford, BC) hit safely five times, walked three times, drove in four and was hit by a pitch.

Harold has two homer game

Colton Harold (Abbotsford, BC) hit two home runs in a 4-for-5 performance with a walk and three RBIs as Northwestern downed Mount Marty 11-5. That wasn’t all the damage Harold did during the week. In the other three games, he collected three hits, two of which were doubles as Northwestern finished 2-2.

Morrell a masher for Missouri S&T

If you looked at the boxscore of Missouri S&T’s game with William Jewell, you may not know if it was a baseball or football game. The Miners won the game 30-17 and Tate Morrell (Lloydminster, Alta.) had three hits, three walks and three walks and three RBIs. All three hits were doubles. Next up was a series with Southwest Baptist in which the senior had three hits, a RBI, two stolen bases and was hit by a pitch.

Cardoso comes up with seven hits

Kaiden Cardoso (Abbotsford, BC) of the Minot State Beavers assembled a seven-hit week with three walks, nine RBIs and a stolen base. A 7-6 win over St. Cloud State saw Cardoso hit a three-run home run to open the scoring and a two-run home run in the sixth. He went deep again, a two-run shot, in a 9-7, Game 1 win over Minnesota Duluth.

Kats rely on Canadian bats to close regular season

Manager Joe Bauth and the Erie Community College Kats have a long history of recruiting Canadians and it’s worked out quite well for them. Carter Arbuthnot (Oshawa, Ont.) and Mason Wright (Courtice, Ont.) are two Canadians making an impact on the 2021 team.

Last week, Arbuthnot nabbed eight knocks, including a home run in an 11-9 loss to Monroe. In that loss he finished 4-for-5 with two RBIs. The former Oshawa Legionnaire also walked three times and drove in five over the final six games on the Kats schedule.

After the opening game of the week, Wright had a hit in five straight games, walked once and drove in three. The Kats went 4-2 to finish the campaign 18-16.

Pettener plays in all six

Sean Pettener (Hamilton, Ont.) thrived on being busy for Rend Lake. Pettener, who was in the lineup for all six games, had 12 hits, worked four walks, drove in eight and swiped three bases. The Hamiltonian hit a homer in a 14-13 loss in Game 1 of their series with Frontier.

Caskenette, Cochise ready for postseason

Losing 3-of-4 probably isn’t how Cochise College pictured heading into postseason play, but one bright spot this past week was the play of Connor Caskenette (Duncan, BC). Caskenette was a perfect 8-for-8 in a doubleheader with Paradise Valley, going 3-for-3 with home run, two doubles and two RBIs in a 9-7 loss, before going 5-for-5 with five RBIs and five runs scored in a 24-8 victory. Saturday saw him work a walk in a 10-1 loss to Central Arizona in the first game of a double dip and then go 3-for-5 with a walk in in the back half.

Grant, Nelson swing it for Mystics

Two Albertans were at the forefront of the Bismarck State Mystics offence.

Logan Grant (Calgary, Alta.) had an incredible 17 hits, two walks and 21 RBIs as the Mystics went 7-1. Grant launched three home runs, one against Lake Region State and two in a series with North Dakota State College of Science.

Tory Nelson (Medicine Hat, Alta.) also collected five hits, including two doubles.

Bucovetsky bashes pitching

Jake Bucovestky (Toronto, Ont.) had himself a fine offensive week for Highland Community College. Bucovestky had six hits, three walks, four RBIs and three stolen bases over five games. He hit a homer and went 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs in a 29-14 loss to Neosho County.

Hewitt hits but Cowboys fall

Bedlam baseball was back as Oklahoma State took on Oklahoma in a three-game Big 12 conference series. Max Hewitt (Midhurst, Ont.) collected a hit, a walk and a RBI in a 16-2, Game 1 loss. Hewitt hit a solo shot and chipped in two hits and a walk in a 5-3 loss in Game 2. The Cowboys avoided the sweep with an 8-7 win in Game 3 behind two hits, including a solo home run and two walks from the former Ontario Blue Jay.

Fishbaum figures out pitchers

Jesse Fishbaum (Toronto, Ont.) garnered nine hits, three walks and four RBIs for the Cleary Cougars. One of the blows was a solo home run in the Cougars’ 16-6 win over Rochester.

Szabo appears twice

Right handed pitcher Mat Szabo (Sarnia, Ont.) came out of the bullpen twice last week for the No. 11 Angelo State Rams. The first appearance came in a 10-1 win over St. Edward’s. Szabo tossed a scoreless inning with a walk and two punch outs. He was back on the mound in Game 3 of the Rams’ series with the University of Texas Permian Basin. In that outing, he worked five scoreless innings and allowed one hit and a walk. Ten of the 15 outs he notched were strikeouts.

Demchenko finishes with stellar start

In what was his last start of the season, Zach Demchenko (Okotoks, Alta.) made it count. Demchenko threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings in Friends University’s 9-0 win over Ottawa. He gave up six hits and struck out six to earn the win.

Fascia flashes his bat against the Buckeyes

Zac Fascia (Brampton, Ont.) had six hits, a walk and three RBIs in Purdue’s three-game series with Ohio State. His best game came in the only Boilermaker win, a 16-15 slugfest in Game 3, when he went 3-for-6 with a solo home run and three RBIs.

Cust, McWillie lead the charge for Colby

A Canadian duo were front and centre as the Colby Trojans went 3-2, including a four-game series win over Hutchinson.

Brayden Cust (Sherwood Park, Alta.) stirred the offensive drink with seven hits, four walks, five RBIs and a stolen bag. Cust left the park in a 6-3, Game 3 win over Hutchinson.

As he has done before, Tyler McWillie (Okotoks, Alta.) performed well both in the box and on the mound. With the bat, he pounded out five hits, walked twice and drove in five runs. McWillie’s best offensive performance was in Game 4 against Hutchinson when he went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in the 11-4 loss. On the mound he picked up the win in a 14-9, Game 2 win over Hutchinson. He lasted 5 2/3 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits with five walks and nine strike outs.

Clarke clears the wall twice

Denzel Clarke (Pickering, Ont.) led the Matadors of California State University Northridge to a four-game sweep of in-state for Cal State Bakersfield. Clarke hit a two-run home run and concluded Game 1, 2-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs. He had a hit, a RBI, two stolen bases and was hit by a pitch in Game 2, then went 3-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and another hit by pitch in Game 3. To round things out in Game 4, he stroked a two-run home run, walked twice and stole a base.

Weisner with 11 hits

Allen County’s Jonah Weisner (Mission, BC) was not an easy hitter to face this past week. Weisner accumulated 11 hits, six walks, six RBIs and four stolen bases in six games. To start the schedule, he was 2-for-3 with a home run, two walks, three RBIs and a stolen base in a 14-6 win over Cowley.

Moretto pulverizes pitching

Steven Moretto (Coquitlam, BC) brought the stick for Sacramento State. Moretto had double-digit hits with 10, walked twice and drove in three in six games for the Hornets. He went 3-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs to start the week in an 11-6 victory over Kansas and then was 3-for-4 again in a 3-2 win in Game 4 of their series with Grand Canyon.

Gernon gets to Green River

When a player gets on at least twice in every game, it’s usually a good week. Daniel Gernon (Surrey, BC) pull together a 2-for-3 performance with a walk as Lower Columbia beat Green River 11-1 in Game 1 of their four-game series. Gernon had a hit, a walk, a RBI and a stolen base in a 5-0, Game 2 win. He followed that game up with a hit, two walks and a stolen base as his side took Game 3 by a 9-0 score. Game 4 was another good showing for the Canadian as he went 3-for-4 with a walk in a 14-3 win.

Dorman, Napa Valley steal three from Yuba

Wyatt Dorman (Nanaimo, BC) and Napa Valley outscored Yuba 36-16 to earn a three-game sweep. Dorman’s Game 1 effort included a hit, before he went 2-for-4 in Game 2. The Storm earned the sweep partially thanks to a 2-for-4 game with a walk and three RBIs in Game 3 from the Mid Island Pirate grad.

Brazier boasts eight hits

The week didn’t start off the way the Niagara County Community College Thunderwolves may have wanted as they dropped an 11-10 game to Herkimer, but it sure did end well as they swept four from Jamestown. Cal Brazier (Oshawa, Ont.) helped the cause with eight hits, four walks and 11 RBIs. His most impressive game came in the only loss, when he was able to go 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs. In the Jamestown series, he also legged out a pair of triples.

Stephen helps Marshalltown on the mound, chips in five hits

Jackson Stephen (Cowichan Bay, BC) threw a complete game in Marshalltown’s 4-1, Game 3 win over Iowa Lakes. Stephen allowed the one run on seven hits over seven innings. He walked one and struck out four to pick up his first win of the season. The hurler also did a little damage with the bat during the week, as he mustered five hits.

Guzzo goes eight four Genesee

Nickel City star Joseph Guzzo (Sudbury, Ont.) tossed eight innings and surrendered four runs (three earned) on nine hits to guide Genesee to an 8-4 win in Game 3 of their series with Finger Lakes. Guzzo did walk six, but struck out nine to earn the win and improve to 3-2.

Schindel records four hits in two games

Tyler Schindel (Victoria, BC) poked four hits, two in each contest, as San Diego Christian split two games with William Jessup. Schindel hit a three-run home run in a 20-11 loss.

Chenier-Rondeau rallies Cowley to five wins

Felix Chenier-Rondeau (Quebec City, Que.) collected eight hits and left the yard twice for Cowley College in a 5-1 week. Chenier-Rondeau worked seven walks, drove in six and stole a base, as well. His home runs came in Games 1 and 4 versus Fort Scott, both Tiger wins.

Lakeland scored 24 runs, Connors has four hits

The week may not have been busy for Lakeland College as they had two games cancelled, but their bats quickly found a rhythm in the two they did play. Joel Connors chipped in four hits, a walk and seven RBIs as his team scored 24 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Clark State.

Orenczuk leads Generals to wins with his offence

Alex Orenczuk (London, Ont.) compiled four hits and four RBIs for the LSU Alexandria Generals in a doubleheader against the University of Texas A&M Texarkana. One of his knocks went over the wall for a two-run home run in the second game. The Generals won both by a combined score of 23-4.

Cerantola strikes out the side for Ole Miss

Eric Cerantola (Oakville, Ont.) struck out the side in his one-inning relief outing for Mississippi State on Wednesday. The Canuck right-hander pitched the fourth inning in his team’s 10-2 win over The Citadel. Cerantola also threw four wild pitches in the frame.
