It was a busy week for Canadians in the college game.

A few awards have been handed out, a couple of records broken and some big numbers were put up. Read all about it below.

Keys wins WHAC Pitcher of the Year

Aquinas College’s Travis Keys (London, Ont.) is the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year. Keys went 5-2 with a 2.61 ERA and limited opposing hitters to a .210 average. He made 13 appearances, 10 of which were starts, and struck out 101 over 62 innings.

Jared McCorrister (Boissevain, Man.) of the Mayville State Comets was named to the All-North Star Athletic Association First Team. McCorrister led the Comets in average (.295), hits (59), doubles (18), home runs (7), RBIs (41) and slugging percentage (.510).

Perrett picks up two honours

In 16 appearances for the Northwestern Ohio Racers, Kyle Perrett (Sharon, Ont.) posted a 1-0 record with a 1.84 ERA over 14 2/3 innings pitched. Those numbers were good enough for him to be named a Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference First Team relief pitcher. He was also named to the WHAC All-Academic team.

Marks breaks school records

Jordan Marks (Brights Grove, Ont.) went six innings and allowed three runs on eight hits with a walk and four strikeouts to earn the win as USC Upstate downed High Point 10-6 in Game 1 of their weekend series. The win, his ninth, gives him the most in a single season for the Spartans. The strikeouts he recorded moved his season total to 87, which is also the most in one campaign. He’s also won 20 games in his college career, which moves him into a tie with Scott Eckerd for first on the all-time list at the school. If all goes well, the right hander will have two chances to become the all-time wins leader in Spartans history as he will make two more starts, one each against Campbell and UNC Asheville.

Orenczuk a second teamer

The Rainy River Athletic Conference named their All-Conference teams last week and one of them featured a familiar name. Alex Orenczuk (London, Ont.) was named to the Second Team after hitting .339 with seven home runs and 32 RBIs for the LSU Alexandria Generals. Two of Orenczuk’s homers were grand slams.

Reyes an honourable mention

Matt Reyes (Vancouver, BC) was recognized as an All-Heart of America Athletic Conference honourable mention for his bat as a designated hitter. Reyes led the Yellowjackets with a .366 average, seven home runs, 13 doubles and 36 RBIs. He worked 30 walks and slugged at a .656 clip, which was top 15 in the conference.
