Bourassa hurls six scoreless innings in Goldeyes' win

GENEVA, IL – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (40-37) beat the Kane County Cougars 2-0 at Northwestern Medicine Field on Saturday night.

The Goldeyes broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth. Tyler Hill doubled down the right field line with one out. Two batters later, Max Murphy hit a two-out single to centre that scored Hill with the game’s first run.

Kevin Lachance singled through the right side with one out in the top of the sixth, took second on Logan Hill’s line drive single to right, and scored on a Deon Stafford line drive single to left.

Landen Bourassa (3-0) started for the Goldeyes and picked up the win with six shutout innings on two hits. Bourassa walked two and struck out four.

Austin Henrich and Travis Seabrooke each worked a scoreless inning in relief of Bourassa. Christian James then pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth to earn his first save since 2016. From the fourth into the bottom of the ninth, Goldeyes’ pitching retired 14 consecutive batters.

Jack Fox (2-5) started for the Cougars (37-42) and took the loss, allowing two earned runs on nine hits in six innings. Fox walked one and struck out five.

Wes Darvill (Langley, B.C.) singled in the top of the first and has matched a career-high with a 13-game hitting streak.
