LINCOLN, NE – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (22-17) defeated the Lincoln Saltdogs 6-1 at Haymarket Park Sunday afternoon to win their fifth straight contest and sweep the three-game series between the two clubs.

The Goldeyes – who never trailed in the series – took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Max Murphy hit a two-run, two-out home run to left field. It was Murphy’s team-leading 12th long ball of the season and fourth in the past five games.

Lincoln (20-18) got one of those runs back in the bottom of the third inning when JR DiSarcina scampered home on a wild pitch.

Winnipeg would score four times with two out in the fourth. First Eric Rivera came in on a wild pitch, then Ian Sagdal hit a two-run single to left field that brought in Deon Stafford Jr. and Raul Navarro. Finally, David Washington singled home Kevin Lachance to give the Goldeyes a 6-1 lead.

Landen Bourassa (Lethbridge, Alta.) started for Winnipeg and earned the win. He surrendered one earned run on four hits in six innings of work, striking out five. Travis Seabrooke (Peterborough, Ont.), Zac Ryan, and Erasmo Pinales threw three innings of scoreless relief for the Goldeyes, who allowed just 17 hits in the series.

Saltdogs’ starter Zach Keenan was charged with the loss, giving up six earned runs on seven hits over five innings pitched.

Having won five of six away from home, the Goldeyes now return to Shaw Park for a three-game set at against the West Division leading Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks that begins Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
