Boyd named Mariners' minor league field coordinator

SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle Mariners Director of Player Development Emanuel Sifuentes announced the following coordinators have been named:

Louis Boyd – Minor League Field Coordinator

CJ Gillman – Hitting Coordinator (new hire)

Zac Livingston – Catching Coordinator

Rounding out the player development coordinators are returning Pitching Coordinator Max Weiner, as well as returning Special Assignment Coordinators Mike Cameron, Alvin Davis, Franklin Gutierrez and Dan Wilson.

“The implementation of our processes throughout the minor leagues is pivotal to our success.” Sifuentes said. “These well-rounded individuals will provide the attention-to-detail, consistency and standard throughout each affiliate in the organization.”

Boyd, who is entering his fourth season in the Mariners organization, has been promoted to Minor League Field Coordinator where he will oversee every Mariners’ affiliate in the minor leagues. He served as manager for the Mariners High-A affiliate Everett AquaSox during the 2021 season and was named the Dave Henderson Minor League Staff Member of the Year. Boyd was originally drafted by Seattle in the 24th round of the 2017 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Arizona. He served as player/coach for High-A Modesto at the beginning of the 2019 season and went 19-19 in Short-A Everett's final 38 games after taking over as manager on July 23. During the 2020 season, Boyd was a coach during Summer Camp 2.0 and was on the staff at the alternate site in Tacoma. He was scheduled to manage Short-A Everett in 2020 prior to the cancellation of the minor league season.

Gillman joins the Mariners organization after spending the previous two seasons (2020-21) as Minor League Hitting Coordinator for the Cincinnati Reds. Gillman will oversee minor league hitting efforts and implement Mariners staff development programs across every level in the minor leagues. Prior to his time in Cincinnati, he was the Recruiting Coordinator/Assistant Coach at the United States Air Force Academy from July 2014-Nov. 2019. Gillman graduated from the University of Dayton in 2012 and played two seasons (2012-13) of professional baseball with the Windy City ThunderBolts in the Frontier League.

Livingston has been promoted to Catching Coordinator after spending the previous six seasons (2016-21) as a manager and coach for the Mariners Arizona Complex League. He will oversee and implement Mariners catching programs across the minor leagues as well as bring accountability to the pitch-calling process. Livingston was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 34th round of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Arizona Christian University, where he earned a degree in Business Administration and Management. He joined the Mariners organization in December 2015.
