The college baseball season got underway this past week and among those taking the field were a few Terriers alumni.
Right-hander Matt Brown (Oakville, Ont.) has made a strong impression on his new team, so much so that he earned the Opening Day start for St. Petersburg College.
Brown turned in five innings of work and allowed three runs on five hits in a 3-2 loss to Seminole State College of Florida. The 6-foot-4 hurler issued a pair of walks and struck out four in the outing.
For his efforts, Brown is the Terriers College Player of the Week.
Next up for the Titans is a three-game set with Pasco-Hernando State College Feb. 3-4.
Honourable Mention:
Southpaw Lucas Earle also took the mound on opening weekend for the Allan Hancock Bulldogs, tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief in a 14-10 victory over College of the Sequoias. He didn't allow a hit and struck out four.
The Bulldogs are off to a 3-0 start in 2023.
Earle is coming off a strong 2022 season where he made 16 appearances, posted a 4.15 ERA and struck out 35 over 34 2/3 innings.
Each week the the Terriers will name a College Player of the Week and highlight honourable mentions.
