Brunner, Crowell, Lumbard, Sanchez lead Dawgs to Game 1 playoff win

The Okotoks Dawgs took the first game of their best-of-three against the Fort McMurray Giants on Monday night, winning 8-0 at Seaman Stadium.

The Dawgs registered 16 hits and their pitching staff allowed only six.

Ricky Sanchez led the way offensively for the Dawgs with three hits and an RBI, while Nash Crowell (Yarmouth, N.S.) belted a two-run home run in the third inning.

Trent Lenihan (White Rock, B.C.), Alejandro Cazorla (Okotoks, Alta.) and Cale Lumbard (Regina, Sask.) also contributed two hits each, while Elijha Hammill (Oakville, Ont.) and Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.) added a hit and an RBI respectively.

On the mound, left-hander Graham Brunner (Sherwood Park, Alta.) got the start and tossed six scoreless innings, while striking out five batters. Brendan Leblanc (Victoria, B.C.) finished up with three scoreless frames.

The two teams will play in Fort McMurray on Tuesday with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
