Burlington takes Metros to school behind Ryerson

2018 COBA Major Pitcher of the Year Cam Ryerson showed he still has it, pitching eight innings in a Burlington 6-3 over the Niagara Metros.

COBA Major Week XII Recap

By Dan Estey

The Burlington Brants had a bit of a down week as they prepared for the Hap Walters Invitational Tournament. That, however, didn’t stop them from winning their lone regular season game of the week. The Brants made the trek down to St. Catharines to take on the Niagara Metros at George Taylor Field.

The Brants got things rolling early as they put up single runs in the first, third and fourth innings to take an early 3-0 lead. They continued to tack on as they added a pair in the fifth followed by a single run in the sixth for a 6-0 lead.

The Metros would start to claw back though as they added a pair of runs of their own in the eighth to cut the lead to 6-2. They would add another run in the ninth but would come up short as Burlington took this game by a score of 6-3.

Veteran outfielders Tim Sogan (2-for-5, with a triple and two RBIs) and Corrie Morrison (2-for-4, with a double and an RBI) lead the 11-hit attack for the Brants. Evan Krychowski (RBI) and Mike Grilli each had a pair of singles as well. Phil Hache, Cam Ryerson and Cole Lewis each had a hit with Ryerson and Lewis also scoring a run a piece. Matt Casburn was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs to lead the way for Niagara.

On the hill, 2018 COBA Major Pitcher of the Year Cam Ryerson was brilliant again as he went eight strong innings to secure his fourth win of the season. He allowed two runs while scattering seven hits. He walked two Metros batters while striking out seven. Ryan Colling threw the ninth allowing a run on three hits to close out the game. Justin Ayles went six innings in taking the loss for Niagara.
