Official Hamilton Cardinals News Release
The Hamilton Cardinals, members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL), are pleased to announce the signing of Carleton Ravens Catcher Ryan Burnside (Ottawa, Ont.)
Burnside joins the Cardinals after a dominant year in OUA baseball in 2019 where he won OUA catcher of the year hitting .408 (40-98) with 10 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs and 40 runs batted in.
"It's an exciting time for me,” said Burnside. “The opportunity to go down to Hamilton and continue to play the game I love at the highest level possible was extremely enticing and one I could not refuse. I can't wait to get down there and get to work and do what I can to help the Cardinals compete for a championship."
"Having watched Ryan play in OUA baseball, what I love about him his pure athleticism. He can catch, play first base, play outfield and he can pitch,” said Cardinals GM Jeff Lounsbury. “He throws 88-90 and he has great power to all fields as a hitter. He is a fierce competitor and has all the tools to be successful in our league. Coach Castelli will be able to use him in so many different ways and I anticipate he will bring great leadership and have a strong positive presence in our clubhouse.
The Hamilton Cardinals are a member of Ontario's most elite baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
