Elliott: PG elite honour for Yahiro, 10 Canucks make all-tourney team

Abbotsford Cardinals’ LHP Taisei Yahiro (Abbotsford, BC) of the DBacks Langley Blaze was named to the Perfect Game Wood Bat World championships elite team.

Of the 70 Canadians in Florida last month, no less than 10 players earned all-tournament honours.

Yet, only one was named elite status at the 20th annual WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, Fla. Abbotsford Cardinals’ LHP Taisei Yahiro (Abbotsford, BC) of the DBacks Langley Blaze worked nine innings, did not allow a run and struck out 15 in nine innings.

The Canucks who earned all-tourney honours as hitters were INF Ryan Beitel (Cloverdale, BC), Holdem Cumiskey (Surrey, BC) and Toronto Mets Ryan Leitch (Whitby, Ont.) all of the DBacks Langley Blaze.

Dasan Brown (Oakville, Ont.), Blake Buckle (Milton, Ont.) and David McCabe (Courtice Ont.) of the Ontario Blue Jays also garnered all-tourney honours. As did Great Lakee Canadians Owen Diodati (Niagara Falls Ont.).

The three pitchers to make the all-tourney team were Langley Blaze Ryan Scott (Quispamsis, NB), Neftaly Severino Cronier (Boisbriand Que.) and Justin Thorsteinson (Langley, BC) all of the DBacks Langley Blaze
