Cameron Johnson off to Rutgers

Former Ontario Blue Jays LHP Cameron Johnson (Burlington, Ont.) has committed to the Rutgers Black Knights.

Cameron Johnson has made the rounds.

LHP Johnson (Burlington, Ont.) pitched for the Ontario Blue Jays, the Canes Florida National, Canes American, the Canes and TXNL.

Now, he’s headed for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights where he’ll be under the tutelage of pitching coach Mike McRae (Niagara Falls, Ont.) formerly of the Niagara Purple Eagles, Canisius Golden Griffin and William and Mary Pride.

In the past, Johnson earned a berth on the Rawlings/Perfect Game Preseason All-American and All-Region Team Honorable Mention for the Canada/Puerto Rico regions in 2024 and 2023.

In 2023, he was named to the all-tourney team with Canes Florida at the Perfect Game 17U National Championship at East Cobb Complex in Marietta, Ga. and the Perfect Game WWBA Florida Qualifier at the BOOMBAH Sports Complex in Sanford, Fla. (4 2/3 innings two earned runs on two walks and five hits, fanning four).

Johnson also earned all-tournament honours in 2022 with the Canes Florida 18U AmericanPerfect Game WWBA Florida Qualifier Underclass World championship in Jupiter, Fla. (3 1/3 innings, one earned run, allowed on three hits and two walks, while striking out four), with Canes American at the 17U National Championship in Sanford, Fla. (four scoreless, allowing two hits, one walk, striking out six) and with Canes National at the Perfect Game WWBA Florida Qualifier in Sanford (four scoreless (four scoreless, six strikeouts, two hits).

With the Ontario Blue Jays he pitched three scoreless at the 2021 Perfect Game 17U Florida Summer Select in Fort Myers. He struck out five, allowed two hits and walked three. The Blue Jays went 4-0 in pool play and won the tourney.
