Alfonso Villalobos (Kirkland, Que.) playing for the Fire is all too fitting as he couldn’t be cooled off at the plate for Southeastern University in four games last week.
Villalobos began by torching a team from his homeland, the No. 24 University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, in a pair of victories.
During the first, a convincing 12-0 win, he went 3-for-5 with two doubles. In the second, he was 3-for-3 with a solo home run, a double and a walk in a 12-10 victory.
Next came a pair of games against the University of Saint Francis, who also couldn’t slow down the former Académie de baseball du Canada standout.
Villalobos had two hits, one of which was double, three RBIs and a stolen base in an 11-1 drubbing. He followed that up with a 4-for-5 game that included a solo home run, another double, a walk and two RBIs in a 20-9 victory to close out a 4-0 week.
With the four victories, Southeastern is now 8-0 on the season.
Alfonso Villalobos is the Canadian Baseball Network College Player of the Week for Feb. 3 to 9.
