What was more impressive than infielder Nash Crowell’s performance at the plate for Reinhardt University last week was what it took get into the batter’s box in the first place.
To fully appreciate his series against Johnson University, you have to go back to the previous weekend when the Eagles took on No. 1 Southeastern. It was then that Crowell (Yarmouth, N.S.) took a 100-mph fastball off the face during an at bat, leaving him a bloodied mess.
After missing a midweek contest against Middle Georgia State, Crowell was back in the lineup just six days later in Game 1 against Johnson.
The rest reads more like a movie script.
The Okotoks Dawgs product went 4-for-5 in Game 1 and hit a walk off grand slam to give his team a 10-6 victory.
He then belted a two-run home run in an 8-4 Game 2 win.
Not done, Game 3 saw him swat a solo shot and drive in two in an 8-0 victory.
They don’t make many like Crowell anymore.
Nash Crowell is the Canadian Baseball Network College Player of the Week for April 1 to 7.
