It was a week to remember for Saint Xavier University right-handed pitcher Nico Saldias (Ajax, Ont.).

Saldias took the ball for the Cougars in the championship game of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament and turned in eight strong innings of work. He allowed one run on three hits and a walk, while striking out 11 to lead his team to a 7-1 win over the University of Indiana South Bend.

The Cougars went 6-1 in the tournament and needed to beat the Titans twice to take the title.

Later in the week, Saldias was named to the All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team.

With his team currently playing in the NAIA Opening Round in Lawrenceville, Ga., Saldias has a 5-4 record, a 3.08 ERA and 101 strikeouts in 79 innings pitched.
