It wasn’t an easy week to be a member of the Cumberland University baseball team.

The Phoenix self-reported an inadvertent NAIA Baseball violation for an ineligible player they used throughout the season. As a result, the team had to vacate 22 of their wins, which dropped their record to 6-38. So it would be understandable if the team had a down week.

But Nolan Machibroda (Saskatoon, Sask.) was having none of that. Machibroda pounded out 11 hits, walked six times and drove in 12 runs to lead the Phoenix to a 3-1 week, which included a regular season ending series sweep of Tennessee Southern. He swatted a two-run home run in a 19-6 Game 1 win, a three-run home run in a 26-10 Game 2 win, and capped it all off with another two-run shot in a 15-8 victory in Game 3.

The senior infielder was named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week for his efforts.

Despite now owning a 9-39 record, their season continues this weekend as they take on Thomas More University in the Mid-South Conference Tournament opening round.

Nolan Machibroda is the Canadian Baseball Network College Player of the Week for April 18 to 24.
