Simon Grinberg (Kitchener, Ont.) apparently doesn’t believe in easing into the season and finding his stride.
Grinberg ambushed opposing pitchers for the Keiser University Seahawks this past weekend, collecting eight hits in a four-game sweep of Brewton-Parker College.
He started the series off with a 3-for-4 performance that included a double and a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth that put his team ahead for good in an 8-7 win.
Another double, a walk and an RBI followed in a 13-6 Game 2 victory. The Bossier Parish Community College transfer then went 2-for-2 with another double, a solo home run to open the scoring, a walk and a hit by pitch as the Seahawks won Game 3, 8-7.
Not done there, Grinberg stroked two more doubles, drove in two and walked three times as his team completed the sweep with an 18-10 win.
In all, he collected five doubles, two home runs, six RBIs, five walks and a hit by pitch to open the season.
For his efforts, Grinberg was named the Sun Conference Player of the Week.
He’s also the Canadian Baseball Network College Player of the Week for Jan. 22-28.
