There’s a certain level of pressure that comes with being a team’s Game 3 starter in college, especially in a three-game series.
Those tabbed with the job can help secure a sweep, a series win or be relied upon to salvage a victory during an otherwise forgettable weekend.
Right-handed pitcher Ty Schaffer (Cardston, Alta.) did the second of those three outcomes for William Woods University on March 23.
After the Owls dropped Game 1 of their series with Hannibal-LaGrange, they rallied for a Game 2 victory to set up the rubber-match.
Schaffer not only delivered in his start, he gave the rest of the pitching staff a breather by tossing a complete game, nine innings in an 8-1 win. He allowed eight hits and struck out 10 over 107 pitches.
The victory evened the Owls record to 15-15-1.
Ty Schaffer is the Canadian Baseball Network College Player of the Week for March 18 to 24.
