Abraham Toro was demoted by the Milwaukee Brewers on March 27.

With 262 games and 913 plate appearances the previous four years with the Houston Astros and the Seattle Mariners, this is not what INF Toro (Longueuil, Que.) had in mind when he and Jesse Winker were dealt from Seattle to the Brewers for 2B Kolten Wong and cash.

Yet, Toro did not head for the triple-A Nashville Sounds and hit B-17 on the juke box and listen to sad country songs. Neither did he hang his head after the Brewers decided to go with Mike Brosseau and Owen Miller as their back-up infielders.

No, the former Academie Baseball Canada infielder chosen in the fifth round of the 2016 draft by Houston Astros scout Bill Stevenson (Leaside, Ont.) from the Seminole State College Trojans began putting bat to ball.

This past week he led all Canucks in hits going 7-for-21 (.333) with six RBIs to earn Canadian Baseball Network minor league player of the Week honours for Week III.
