Canadian Tyler Duncan records four hits to lead Arkansas State to win

Tyler Duncan (Sooke, B.C.) was just a double shy in completing the cycle as the Arkansas State baseball team defeated Appalachian State 10-2, Friday evening at Tomlinson Stadium.

Following the win, A-State improved to 24-22 overall and 11-12 in the Sun Belt while App State dropped to 20-24 overall and 11-11 in the league.

Zach Jackson (6-4) pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and five punch outs. Kollin Stone and Jack Jumper each pitched a scoreless inning as Stone punched out one while Jumper struck out three.

The home team tacked on a three spot in the first, to build a 3-1 advantage over the Mountaineers, when Sky-Lar Culver sliced a single down the right field line and Tyler Duncan ripped a two-run tripled down the right field.

Sooke, B.C. native., Duncan rallied again in the fourth, when he launched a two-run home run to right center to welcome home Justin Felix. Duncan finished the day, an impressive 4-for-4 with five RBIs, a triple and a home run while Kyle MacDonald finished two-for-four with a run.

The Red Wolves extended its advantage 8-1 in the fifth, when Culver doubled through left center and Duncan singled through the right side. A-State added two more runs in the eighth when Felix scored on a fielder’s choice and Duncan scored on a wild pitch. Appalachian State scored its only two runs in the first and sixth innings.

A-State will return to action Saturday, May 4, when it continues its series against Appalachian State. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Tomlinson Stadium.
