Official Canisius Athletics News Release
Canisius baseball head coach Matt Mazurek announced Wednesday three pitchers are transferring into the program.
Lukas Barry, Cole Murray and Chris Pouliot will bolster the Griffs' pitching staff for the 2022 season, as all three are immediately eligible to play.
Barry, a right-handed hurler from Missisauga, Ont., arrives on Main Street after spending his sophomore year at Connors State in Oklahoma.
Barry made seven appearances with the Cowboys in 2021, five of which were starts. He posted a 2-1 record while fanning 15 batters in 13 1/3 innings of work.
Barry began his collegiate career at the Division I level with Saint Louis. With the Billikens, Barry logged three innings in a pair of relief outings. He struck out four batters, three of which came in two innings of work against Oklahoma State.
"Lukas has had a few stops in his college career and has experienced the college game in different facets," Mazurek said. "He is looking for a rejuvenation in his career and after some good talks and understanding we believe we can give him a strong environment to get him where he wants to be."
Murray, also a right-hander, comes to Canisius after spending his sophomore campaign at fellow MAAC school, Iona.
The Buffalo native made one appearance with the Gaels last season.
Prior to his lone season with the Gaels, he played his freshman campaign at Wells College in Auburn, N.Y. He appeared in eight games in 2020 before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Cole is a Western New York product that is coming home after working on transitioning to be a pitcher only," Mazurek stated. "He is another great kid that loves to compete and learn his craft. We are excited to see his continued development on the mound inside of our program."
Pouliot, a southpaw, will join the Griffs after spending the past two seasons at the University of Pittsburgh.
A native of Boischatel, Qué., Pouliot logged seven career appearances at Pitt, all of which came last season. His lone collegiate start came in a non-conference contest against Bucknell.
Pouliot posted a 2-0 record last season for the Panthers, earning his first career victory in his collegiate debut against Indiana State. He also was the winning pitcher after tossing an inning at Georgia Tech.
"Chris is a Canadian left-handed pitcher that hails from Québec," Mazurek said. "He brings experience from a higher level of Division I baseball and has the ability to be a strong piece to our pitching staff. We look forward to his development within our program."
