Quebec’s Mr. Baseball

The Chipola College Indians were shut out by rivals Northwest Florida State College in a 4-0 loss on Sunday.

Right-hander Cédric De Grandpré (Saint-Simon, Que.) pitched two scoreless innings for Chipola, in which he allowed two hits and a walk, while striking out one. In total, the former Academy Baseball Canada (ABC) hurler made 33 pitches, 18 of which were strikes.

De Grandpré’s Quebec teammate, Alfonso Villalobos, played third base and had two hits for Chipola. He was the only Indians’ player to have more than one hit in the game.

Félix-Antoine Chénier-Rondeau

The Cowley College Tigers from Kansas earned a 2-0 victory over the Seward County Community College Saints. In the win, Félix-Antoine Chénier-Rondeau (Quebec, Que.) went 1-for-4.

William Sierra gives up three runs

The Washington State University Huskies suffered a 14-8 loss to the University of Arizona. Reliever William Sierra (Montreal, Que.) pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up up three earned runs. He allowed three hits, including a home run and walked a batter. He was not involved in the decision.

Julien Giroux-Harvey doubles

The St. Michael’s College Vermont Purple Knights suffered two losses to the University of Southern New Hampshire. Quebecer Julien Giroux-Harvey (Montreal, Que.) played in the first game, an 8-0 loss, and went 0-for-3.

On Saturday, Giroux-Harvey slammed a two-run double in a 13-6 loss to University of Southern New Hampshire.

Marc-Antoine Lebreux held in check

The University of Virginia Cavaliers suffered an 8-2 loss to the Louisville Redbirds in Kentucky. Marc-Antoine Lebreux (Montreal, Que.) went 0-for-2.

Carroll on the run

Jacob Carroll (Rawdon, Que.) singled, walked and stole three bases as the Pratt Community College Beavers lost 5-4 in the second game of a doubleheader to the Dodge City Community College Conquistadors. Carroll, a Laval Pirates alum, was hitless in the first game, a 4-1 loss.

RBI for Victor Plaz

The Clarendon College of Texas Chaparrals fought quite a battle against the Western Texas College Westerners in the first game of a doubleheader. Clarendon won 14-13 after scoring two runs in the 10th inning and four in the 11th. Victor Plaz (Montreal, Que.) was 1-for-5 with an RBI. Clarendon won Game 2, 4-2. Plaz was held hitless.

An afternoon to forget for Boucher and Fortier

The Indian Hills Community College Trojans suffered a 9-1 loss to Kirkwood Community College in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Pier-Olivier Boucher and Samuel Fortier were both held hitless in two at bats, with Boucher reaching base on a walk.

Indian Hills came back strong and won the second game 9-4. Boucher (St-Joseph de Beauce, Que.) was limited to one walk in five plate appearances, but he scored a run. Fortier (Quebec City, Que.) went 0-for-1.

Olivier Mayrand held in check

The Nova Southeastern University of Florida claimed a 4-1 victory over Barry University in Game 2 of a doubleheader. Olivier Mayrand (Laval, Que.) was hitless in three plate appearances.

Difficult exit for Antoine Jean

Antoine Jean (Montreal, Que.) worked in relief for the first time in his NCAA career. Jean faced six batters, and only recorded one out, allowing two hits and walking three, while giving up four earned runs. But his University of Alabama Crimson Tide still won 10-9 over Auburn University.
