Cazorla, McDowell help Dawgs down Mavs

The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Medicine Hat Mavericks on Wednesday night by a score of 6-0.

The Dawgs’ offence got rolling early and solid pitching was able to keep the Mavs batters from scoring any runs.

The Dawgs improve to 21-6 on the season and sit atop the west division.

Bobby Vath turned in another solid outing. Vath earned his second win of the season and registered four strikeouts in six innings. Relief efforts from Cade Hermann, David Case and Seth Thompson (Calgary, Alta.) shut down the Mavericks, to earn the Dawgs’ seventh shutout of the year.

Ricky Sanchez led the Dawgs’ offence going 2-for-3 and registering a season-high four RBIs. Alejandro Cazorla (Oktotoks, Alta.) launched his fourth home run of the season and finished 2-for-4. Jacob Morrow and Micah McDowell (Kentville, N.S.) both had multi-hit days.

Morrow also finished with an RBI and two runs.
