When the Toronto Blue Jays selected Damiano Palmegiani in 2018, a scout said into the conference call speaker phone which went around the world on MLB.com …
“With their 35th pick the Blue Jays seclect Damiano Chicken Parmesan.”
That might have been a funny day on Day III of the draft with everyone is getting a little punchy for arguing over who to pick and now they can see the end of the tunnel. Yet to make matters worse the scout failed to pronounce Vauxhall Academy properly where Palmegiani was drafted from.
Three years later, after attending Cal State Northridge and the College of Southern Nevada, the Jays selected Palmegiani (Surrey, BC) And this time they pronounced his name properly.
He batted .467 (7-for-15) with a homer and three RBIs for the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats to earn Canadian Baseball Network minor league Player of the Week in Week VII.
