INF Wes Darvill (Langley, BC) has found a home with the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the independent American Association.

The former Langley Blaze raised his average 24 points to earn Canadian Baseball Network player of the week honours. Darvill hit .385 (5-for-13) with a homer and an RBI.

And Darvill, a former Chicago Cubs minor leaguer, is Blaze through and through. His mom used to run the canteen at McLeod Athletic Park and was a fan fave of visiting scouts.

He helped the 2016 and 2017 Goldeyes, to win championships both years. After a year in the Los Angeles Dodgers, he returned to Manitoba.

Darvill was born the same day as Cincinnati Reds on-base machine Joey Votto (Etobicoke, Ont.) golfer Arnold Palmer, former home run king Roger Maris, singer José Feliciano, actors Edmond O’Brien, Colin Firth, Big Daddy Kane, actress Amy Irving, hoopster Ben Wallace and NHLer Jordan Staal.

On Aug. 9th Andrew Albers had an excellent start for Orix in their 4-0 loss to Chiba Lotte Marines, and his performance deserved a much better result. He pitched seven strong innings, giving up two base hits and only one earned run while striking out five Chiba Lotte batters, but was saddled with the loss. His record in seven appearances with the Buffaloes in Japan’s Pacific League, now stands at 2-4 with a 3.35 ERA.
