What are some of the indicators that a player is ready to be promoted?
Well, first off he has to dominate.
And he has to be strong from start to finish.
Tulsa Drillers’ LHP Rob Zastryzny was dominant as he held the double-A Midland RockHounds to three hits in seven scoreless innings. Zastryzny (Edmonton, Alta.) had support from the Drillers in a 9-0 victory over Midland 9-0 before 5,060 fans at Security Bank Ballpark.
Zastryzny fanned nine, which includes four of the final six men he faced. It was his first start away from Tulsa’s ONEOK Field. He entered the game night with a 1.54 ERA but a 0-2 won-loss record after two starts with Tulsa.
The effort earned Zastryzny Canadian Baseball Network minor league Player of the Week for Week XVII.
Zastryzny lowered his ERA to 0.96 after his outing. He has allowed two earned runs in 18 2/3 innings. The former major leaguer with the Chicago Cubs -- who was there to greet Hockey Night in Canada’s Don Cherry on his visit to Wrigley Field last season -- began this season with 15 outings for the Oklahoma City Dodgers in the Triple A Pacific Coast League.
He was the top Canadian selected by the Cubs in the second round in the 2013 draft from the University of Missouri.

In a season which has included many ups and downs for Rob Zastryzny, his excellent outing this week should provide some measure of confidence for the future. On July 27 in a 9-0 shutout win over the Midland Rockhounds he pitched seven innings and gave up three base hits while striking out nine, to earn the win. His record with Tulsa in three Double A Texas League starts is now 1-2 with an 0.96 ERA. His overall record, including 15 Triple A Pacific Coast League appearances with Oklahoma City Dodgers, now stands at 4-5 with a 5.03 ERA

Jake Sims was a 2018 selection by the San Diego Padres, and this 22 year old native of Guelph, Ont. is developing into a solid relief pitching prospect. This week he had two very good appearances for the Dust Devils, the first was on July 25 in a 14-4 loss to Spokane Indians, when he pitched two scoreless innings and gave up one base hit while striking out five, but was not involved in the decision. He followed that up on July 29th in an 11-2 loss to Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, when he threw two strong innings, giving up no base hits and one run while striking out three Salem-Keizer hitters, but again was not involved in the decision. His record with Tri City in 13 Single A Northwest League appearances now stands at 1-2 with a 7.31 ERA.
