Marklund (North Vancouver, BC) had two more scoreless outings for the class-A Lexington Legends to lower his ERA to 0.52.
That helped Marklund earn Canadian Baseball Network minor league Player of the Week.
How the week that was for Marklund, a free agent sign a year ago as he:
_ Pitched a scoreless ninth in a 4-2 win against the Kannapolis Intimidators before 884 fans at Intimidators Stadium. Marklund threw 12 pitches -- six strikes -- getting one ground ball outs and two fly ball outs.
_ And two nights later, he worked 1 1/3 scoreless as Lexington edged Kannapolis 4-3 before 1,710 at Intimidators Stadium. It was his sixth save. He came one with two out in the eighth and a man on first. Marklund promtply balked the tying run into scoring position. He then retired Lenyn Sosa when he lined out sharply to centre.
It was one of two balls put in play. He retired Tyler Osik, who was called out on strikes. Corey Zangari singled and Amado Nunez walked. After a mound visit, Marklund walked Michael Hickman loading the bases and moving the winning run to second.
Marklund retired Camilo Quinteiro on a foul tip and then retired the final out when Cameron Simmons was called out on strikes. He threw 38 pitches -- 19 for strikes.
The reliever is 2-0 with six saves with the 0.55 mark, walking 18 and striking out 36 in 34 1/3 innings.

The award marks the third time this year that Phillippe Aumont has been named Pitcher of the Week. His 16 strikeouts in these two games, established a new Can Am League record of 131 in a single season. It partners nicely with his League record of 18 strikeouts in a single game, which he set earlier this season (July 16th vs. Rockland Boulders ).

Brandon Marklund was signed as a free agent in the off season by the Kansas City Athletics, and the 23 year old native of North Vancouver, BC is proving that it was a very wise move. Working out of the bullpen with Lexington in the Single A South Atlantic
League, he had two excellent relief appearances this week, first of which was on Aug. 15 in a 4-2 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators when he threw one scoreless, hitless inning, to earn his fifth save of the season. He followed that up on Aug. 17 in a 4-3 victory over Kannapolis, as he pitched 1 1/3 scoreless surrendering one hit while striking out three Intimidators hitters, to secure his second save of the week. His overall record with the Legends in 21 appearances, now stands at 2-0 with six saves and a 0.52 ERA.

A North Vancouver, BC product, Will McAffer is a 22 year old second year pro developing his pitching skills with Lansing Lugnuts in the Blue Jays organization. This week he made two solid relief appearances the first was on Aug. 15 in a 12-4 win over Ft. Wayne Tin Cups as he pitched two innings, gave up three base hits and two earned runs while striking out three Ft. Wayne hitters, but was not involved in the decision. On Aug. 18th in a 9-6 victory over Dayton Dragons he threw two scoreless, gave up one base hit while striking out two Dragons, and earned his fourth win of the season. His overall record with Lansing in twenty eight Single A Midwest League relief appearances, is now 4-3 with one Save and a 4.17 ERA.
