It’s a given that relief pitchers and in particular closers, must relish the challenge of pitching in very tight late inning situations, Tyler Gillies demonstrated again this week, that feeling is in his DNA. He made three appearances this week, all of them in one-run games, and he picked up a win and two saves. It would be hard to improve on that performance. On Aug. 28 in a 3-2 win over Kane County Cougars he pitched a scoreless 1/3 allowing up one base hit to earn the win. On Aug. 31 in a 4-3 win over Quad Cities River Bandits he threw one scoreless, surrendered zero hits while striking out two to pick up his third save of the year. He ended the week on Sept. 1 in a 3-2 victory over Quad Cities pitching one scoreless allowing two hits and with one strikeout, to earn a second save of the week. His overall record with Wisconsin in 42 Single A Midwest League appearances, ended up at 5-2 with four saves and a 3.17 ERA.

It was inevitable that Phillippe Aumont would end the season in the same manner as he performed all year. In his final start on Aug. 30 in a 2-1 win over arch rivals Quebec Capitales, he pitched another gem. A nine inning complete game, he scattered six base hits and gave up one earned run while striking out nine Quebec batters, to earn his eighth win of the season. His overall record with Ottawa in 18 starts, was 8-4 with a 2.65 ERA and in recognition of his excellent complete season performance, he was named 2019 IND Can Am League Pitcher of the Year, and a starter on the 2019 postseason All Star Team.
