CBN POW, Week XXIII - Noah Skirrow

Former Ontario Blue Jay and Great Lake Canadians RHP Noah Skirrow (Cambridge, Ont.) earned CBN player of the week honors.

Over the years, we’ve heard that there is a period of adjustment when a pitcher or a hitter is elevated from one level to another.

Doesn’t matter whether it is from Rookie ball to class-A, from class-A to double-A or double-A to triple-A.

Noah Skirrow took a giant step and made it look easy after being promoted from the double-A Reading Fightin’ Phils to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

RHP Skirrow (Cambridge, Ont.) pitched six scoreless innings, departing with a 1-0 lead after 79 pitches -- 47 for strikes (63.7%). That outing earned him Canadian Baseball Network minor league Player of the Week for Week XXIII.

The Worchester Red Sox finally ended the string of zeros after Skirrow left for a 3-1 win before 4,993 fans at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pa.

Skirrow allowed five base runners -- three hits, two walks -- while striking out four. His final three innings ended in double plays.

How his start against the Red Sox went …

First _ Fly ball, single by Bobby Dalbec (who has played in 267 games with the Red Sox, accumulating 885 plate appearances with 44 homers, 130 RBIs and a .753 OPS), ground out and ground out.

Second _ Strike out swinging, strike out swinging and called strike three swinging.

Third _ Walk, strike out swinging and comebacker for a 1-6-3 double play.

Fourth _ Dalbec singled, ground ball, Dalbec forced and fly ball to right and runner doubled off first.

Fifth _ Lineout, walk and unassisted double play on line drive to first.

Sixth _ Ground ball, single, ground ball and Dalbec popped out to second.

Noah Skirrow was promoted by the Philadelphia Phillies last week from the Reading Fightin’ Phils at double A to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at triple A International League, and on Sept. 7 he made his debut with the IronPigs in a 3-1 loss to Worcester Red Sox. In this game, he pitched six strong scoreless innings, allowed three base hits, while striking out four, but was not involved in the decision.

In a combined 22 minor league appearances in 2022, Skirrow owns 5-8 record with a 4.39 ERA in 104 2/3 innings. He has recorded 119 strikeouts.
