COBA Major Week IV Recap

The Brampton Royals had a solid week in COBA Major League play as they went 2-0 running their overall record to 3-1 on the season good for second in the Andrews Division.

On Wednesday, the Royals traveled to Nelson Park for a match-up with the Burlington Brants. The Brants opened the scoring in this one as they scored a single run in the bottom of the second. The Royals got on the board as they put up a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings as they took a 4-1 lead.

Not wasting any time, Burlington answered right back with a run in the bottom of the sixth and then two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game 4-4. This one needed extra frames and the Royals put up a run in the 10th and then held on for a 5-4 victory.

Offensively, the Royals were led by Joe Ferreira who was 2-for-5 with a pair of singles and two RBI and Brian Stormer who was also 2-for-5 with a double, a single and an RBI. Yannick Rickli was 2-for-4 with two singles, a walk a run and a stolen base while Patrick Pinlac was 1-for-4 with a double, a pair of runs and an RBI. Tim Sogan led the Brants going 3-for-5 with a home run, a pair of singles, two runs and two RBIs.

Ferreira also got the start for Brampton. He went six innings allowing a pair of runs on four hits. He walked a batter while striking out five in collecting a no decision. Brad McLaughlin threw the last four innings in collecting the win. He allowed a pair of earned runs on one hit while walking three and striking out five. Jordan Rienzo, the third of three Burlington hurlers, took the tough loss.

The next night, Brampton was right back in action at home as they hosted the Erindale Cardinals at Dave Dash Memorial Field. The Cards opened the scoring in this one as they put up a three-run inning in the top of the second. Brampton answered back in the bottom half with a run, but Erindale added to more runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 5-1.

The teams traded runs in the next frame to give Erindale a 6-2 lead, but Brampton put up a pair of three-run innings to lead 8-6 heading to the ninth. Erindale managed to get a couple of guys on base and pushed across a run, but the Royals hung on for an 8-7 victory in this contest.

Dawson Fascia led the Royals offensively going 3-for-4 with three singles, a run and two RBIs. Kosta Kafes also went 3-for-4 with a double, a pair of singles and two runs while Andrew Thomson 2-for-3 with two singles, a walk, a pair of runs and an RBI. Victor Speciale was 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI. Chris Novia led Erindale going 3-for-5 with three singles and a pair of RBIs.
