Rangers Rattle Off Two Wins in Week 4
COBA Week IV: Etobicoke Rangers, Hyde, Novia

The Etobicoke Rangers had a perfect week in COBA Major League actions collecting a couple of wins and pushing their way up the Len Andrews division standings and in the process collecting the COBA Major Zero K Bats Team of the Week. 
 
Their week got off to a soggy start as their regular Friday night home game, the Erindale Cardinals were to be the opposition, was postponed because of the wet weather that rolled through the GTA on Thursday. 
 
On Saturday, the Rangers were playing at Connorvale Park but in a weird twist were the visiting team as they took on the Oakville A’s in a twin bill. Because of the construction around Oakville Park all summer the A’s will be playing all of their games on the road and hence were the home team for this pair of games. After a bit of a sluggish start to the season, the Rangers left no doubt in these games as they hammered the A’s by scores of 21-1 and 7-1. 
 
In Game 1, COBA Major Pitcher of the Week Andrew Hyde (1-1) got all the offense he would need and then some as the Rangers bats scored early and often cruising to the victory. Hyde threw 3 1/3 innings allowing no runs on no hits. He walked one batter while striking out two in a very efficient outing. Kyle Angelow threw the last 1 2/3 innings allowing the sole A’s run on two hits. He also collected two strikeouts. At the plate, Daniel Murphy was 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs and three RBI while Tanner Young-Shultz was also 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI in the game. Michael Ferracuti was 2-for-4 with a double, three runs and three RBI while rookie Brandon Costa was also 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
 
In Game 2, it was more of the same on the mound for Etobicoke as four pitchers combined to hold Oakville to a single run for the second game in a row. Tyler Whealy (1-1) started and took the victory. Kyle Breitner threw three innings allowing one run while Brent Cleland and Adam McBride each worked a scoreless inning. Offensively, the Rangers were led by veterans Mark Capone who was 3-for-3 with a run scored and AJ Iafrate who was 1-for-4 with a 2-run single. Young-Shultz and rookie Alex thrower collected the other RBI for Etobicoke.

And on Monday most former and current Etobicoke Rangers where at the Rogers Centre to see Steve (Whitey) Beitner throw out the ceremonial first pitch to former Etobicoke Ranger Joey Votto. 

COBA Major D-Ville Bats Player of the Week, Week 4 (May 21-27th) _ 1B Chris Novia of the Erindale Cardinals

Novia played in three games during this period of games helping lead the Cardinals to a 2-1 record. The Cards won their first two games of the week beating Oakville (7-4) and Brampton (18-8) before dropping a tight 5-4 decision to the Milton Red Sox. For his week, he was 5-for-13 (.385) with three singles, a double and a home run. He scored four runs while collecting eight RBI.

For his season, Novia is now hitting .450 (10-for-20) with two doubles and three home runs. He has walked seven times while scoring 10 runs and collecting 10 RBI.

COBA Major Lazer Pro Pitcher of the Week for Week 4 _ RHP Andrew Hyde of the Etobicoke Rangers.

Hyde had one appearance this week leading the Rangers to a convincing 21-1 victory over the Oakville A’s. In this game, he tossed three scoreless innings while not allowing any hits. He walked one A’s batter while striking out two in collecting the win for Etobicoke.

For his year, Hyde now sits at 1-1 with a 10.18 ERA and a 1.88 WHIP. He has allowed nine runs on 10 hits while walking 10 and collecting four strikeouts.
