COBA Major League Week VII Recap: Erindale Cardinals

When it came to Week VII in the COBA Major League, it was a light week since teams were preparing for the annual Lakeside Tigers invitational tournament in London, Ont.

The Erindale Cardinals had one game during this week as they hosted the Oakville A’s at Greg Cranker Field in Mississauga.

Oakville opened the scoring as they plated a run in the top of the first frame. After a scoreless second, the Cardinals were finally on the board as pushing across two runs to take a 2-1 lead after three complete.

After a scoreless fourth, the A’s took the lead back as they scored three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. The lead was short lived though as Erindale socred twice in the bottom of the frame to tie the game up at four.

Oakville then started to take over the game as it scored twice in the sixth inning followed by another three in the seventh inning to take a 9-4 lead into the seventh. The wheels fell of the bus for the A’s in the seventh inning though as Erindale pushed across nine to take a 13-9 lead. They would add one more run late and take it by a score of 14-9.

Pip Murray-Smith led the Erindale 12-hit attack going 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs and four RBI. Aaron Palmer was also 3-for-4 with an HBP, four runs and three stolen bases while Chris Novia was 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs.

Jay Woodford was 1-for-4 with a walk, two runs and two RBI while Daniel Freeman was 1-for-3 with a pair of walks, a run and two RBI. Adam Alcaraz was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI while brother Eric Alcaraz was also 1-for-3 with an HBP, a pair of runs and a stolen base.

John Dewolfe, with a pair of RBI and a run, and Dylan White with a run wrapped up the Erindale offense. Jack Williams led the Oakville attack going 5-for-6 with a double a run and two RBI while Danny Roderick was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a run and an RBI.

Andrew Mullin drew the start for Erindale. he went four innings allowing four runs (none earned) on eight hits. He walked two batters and struck out one in getting a no decision. Kevin Lucas followed him to the hill throwing an inning allowing three runs (none earned) on four hits.

Adam Forsey was the beneficiary of the big seventh for the Cards, picking up the win going three innings allowing five runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out two.

Mark Taplin had a clean ninth inning to preserve the win striking out one batter. Chris Bowles, the second of three Oakville hurlers, took the loss.
