Official Old Dominion University Athletics News Release

NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion senior first baseman Matt Coutney was named on Thursday to the 2022 College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 3 team.

The team encompasses schools from Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.

To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve, achieve sophomore standing at their current school, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.3 and be nominated by his sports information director.

Coutney currently leads Conference USA and is tied for second in the country with 23 home runs. He also leads the league in OPS at 1.070 and slugging percentage at .830. He is third in C-USA in runs scored, sixth in RBIs, seventh in on-base percentage and ninth in hits.

Coutney leads ODU with 23 multi-hit games, including the only five-hit game by a Monarch this season. Coutney also has five multi-home run games this year and 14 multi-RBI games. He has hit 17 of his 23 home runs in conference play.

By virtue of his placement on the all-district team, Coutney will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees being announced in June.

The Monarchs close out their home schedule this weekend with a three-game set against Marshall starting with a 6 p.m. game on Friday night at the Bud Metheny Ballpark.
