Cubs call up Jared Young

The Chicago Cubs today placed outfielder Rafael Ortega on the 60-day injured list with a left ring finger fracture and selected outfielder Jared Young from Triple-A Iowa.
Young, who hails from Prince George, B.C., will wear uniform number 74 and looks to make his major league debut tonight when the Cubs play the Mets at 6:10 p.m. CT at Citi Field.
Young, 27, is hitting .228 with 21 doubles, two triples, 16 home runs, 57 RBIs and 40 walks in 108 games for Iowa this season and has seen time at first base (42 games), third base (40 games), left field (20 games), second base (six games), right field (four games) and designated hitter (four games).
Selected by Chicago in the 15th round of the 2017 draft out of Old Dominion University, the left-handed batting Young is a career .261 hitter with 82 doubles, 14 triples, 47 home runs and 245 RBIs in 462 career minor league games spanning five minor league campaigns.
The Okanagan Athletics alum was the Cubs Minor League Player of the Year in 2018, combining to hit .300 with an .842 OPS with 19 doubles, eight triples, 16 home runs and 76 RBIs in 120 games between Single-A South Bend and Myrtle Beach.
Young is set to become the 13th player born in Canada to play in the major league this season.
Ortega, 31, has hit .241 (76-for-316) with 14 doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 35 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 118 games for Chicago this season.
