Even though it is a shortened season, some COBA Major Baseball League history was still made on Sunday night in Oakville.
Former Anaheim Angels farmhand and Erindale Cardinals slugger Geoff Cullen clubbed his 200th career home run in the COBA Major Baseball League.
The Mississauga native accomplished the feat in grand fashion as he belted a grand slam home run as part of a three-hit night. He also collected seven RBIs on the night.
He almost had the feat out of the way early as he belted a deep fly ball to right centre field in the first inning but the ball found the upper part of the fence at Oakville Park for a long single.
He grounded out in his next two at bats in both the second and third innings before coming up to the plate in the fifth inning with the sacks full. A's hurler Peter Zytner got ahead of Cullen with two quick strikes but Cullen battled though to get the count even and then took a Zytner curveball out to right field for his 200th round tripper of his career.
The home run was his third of the season and the 1B/DH carries a hot stick into the playoffs this coming weekend at the 9th Line complex in Mississauga. The Cards will open the weekend on Friday night against the Brampton Royals at 7:30pm. Meanwhile the Oakville A's and Burlington Brants will hook up in the other game that night starting at the same time.
Games continue at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday and then 12 p.m. on Sunday followed by the final at 3 p.m.
