LINCOLN, NE – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (32-33) beat the Lincoln Saltdogs 7-3 at Haymarket Park on Friday night.
Winnipeg jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first. Kevin Lachance reached on an infield single with one out, and was followed by a Max Murphy two-run home run to right-centre.
Wes Darvill (Langley, B.C.) walked leading off the second, took second on a Dakota Conners sacrifice, stole third, and scored the Goldeyes’ third run on an Austin Rei line drive single to left. After Tyler Hill doubled down the left field line, Lachance smacked a double off the left-centre field wall that played Rei and Hill.
Lincoln (33-32) pulled within 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Josh Altmann. David Vidal’s two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the eighth made it 5-3 and brought the tying run to the plate. Jose Jose retired Skyler Weber on a pop fly to centre that ended the inning.
The Goldeyes re-extended the lead with two runs in the top of the ninth. Raul Navarro drew a leadoff walk and took second two batters later when Darvill was hit by a pitch. Conners and Rei drew back-to-back walks to force home Navarro, while Darvill raced home on a sacrifice fly to right from Tyler Hill.
