Ontario Blue Jays and Junior National Team alum Cooper Davis belted his first college home run and tied a career-high with three RBIs to help the Vanderbilt Commodores to a 10-4 win over the Memphis Tigers on Tuesday.
Batting leadoff for the Commodores, Davis (Mississauga, Ont.) homered in his first at bat.
In all, Davis was 2-for-6 in the game. The speedy 5-foot-10 outfielder is in his senior season with the Commodores and he’s the No. 13 ranked prospect on the Canadian Baseball Network’s 2021 Draft List.
Davis was selected in the 25th round of the 2017 MLB draft by the Toronto Blue Jays, but he declined to sign and instead headed to Vanderbilt.
In his sophomore and junior campaigns with the Commodores, he batted .331 and .348 respectively and has become a key catalyst of his club’s offence. He has helped Vanderbilt to a 10-1 start to the season - the team’s best since going 16-1 in 2016.
The Commodores will now head out on their first road trip of the season, beginning with a trip to face Oklahoma State (10-0-1) in a three-game series that starts on Friday at 6 p.m.
