Okotoks Dawgs

The Okotoks Dawgs had an outstanding 2019 season, ending a 10-year drought and winning the WCBL Championship.

There were a number of Dawgs players who came up in the clutch in big moments over the course of the season, but there were several who stood out above the rest.

The Dawgs would like to announce the 2019 award winners for MVP, Pitcher of the Year, Rookie of the Year and True Grit award;

MVP - Tristan Peters

Peters, a Dawgs Academy graduate and current Chandler-Gilbert CC Coyote, was hands down the best player all season long. Not only was Peters the Dawgs MVP, he was named MVP of the WCBL.

Peters was impressive at the plate all year long, batting .396 with 18 doubles, 3 triples, 12 home runs and 44 RBIs.

Pitcher of the Year - Nolan Ruff

Nolan Ruff was the anchor of the Dawgs pitching staff in 2019. Ruff started nine games and finished the regular season with a perfect 7-0 record, tying the Dawgs single season win record.

Over the span of those nine starts, Ruff pitched 57 1/3innings with 65 strikeouts while only walking six, finishing the regular season with a 3.14 ERA.

Rookie of the Year - Ricardo Sanchez

Ricardo Sanchez did it all for the Dawgs last year. Sanchez, only in grade 11, was the every day shortstop for the Dawgs Academy 18U Black, and the Dawgs college team when Richard Mascarenas went down with an injury.

Sanchez didn’t skip a beat making the jump to the college level. The slick-fielding shortstop had a .959 fielding percentage in 24 games played with the College Dawgs while collecting eight RBIs, four of which came in the championship run.

True Grit Award - Davis Todosichuk

Davis Todosichuk was as gritty as they come on the baseball field. Todosichuk played the game with passion and enthusiasm, and played an integral role in the 2019 Championship season.

In 45 games, Davis hit .345 with seven doubles, one home run, 17 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. Very impressive season offensively for Todosichuk. Equally as impressive, was when he wasn’t wreaking havoc in the batter’s box or on the base paths, he was playing gold glove calibre defence in the outfield.
