The Okotoks Dawgs beat the Brooks Bombers 22-2 in front of 5,285 fans on Fan Appreciation Night at Seaman Stadium on Saturday.

With the win, the Dawgs improved to 40-14 on the season and sit in second place in the Western Canadian Baseball League’s West Division, two games behind the Sylvan Lake Gulls.

First baseman Nash Crowell (Yarmouth, N.S.) led the Dawgs’ offence with four hits - including a home run - four runs and four RBIs.

Centre fielder Spencer Sullivan (VCU) added three hits - including a three-run home run in the first inning - and five RBIs.

Landon Kauffman (Okotoks, Alta.) also had a three-run home run for the Dawgs and finished 2-for-6 with four RBIs.

Alejandro Cazorla (Okotoks, Alta.) and Caleb Lumbard (Regina, Sask.) also contributed two and three hits respectively, while Jarrett Burney extended his hitting streak to 12 games by going 2-for-4.

On the mound, Greg Ross (Sarnia, Ont.) started and allowed two runs in three innings and picked up the win.

Ryan McFarland (Calgary, Alta.) and Easton Corey (Linn-Benton CC) would then combine to throw four innings scoreless with a combined seven strikeouts.

Then, in a surprising turn of events, position players Ricky Sanchez (Lamar University) and Connor Crowson (Okotoks, Alta.) stepped on the mound and each tossed a scoreless inning to end the game.

The Dawgs will now host the Lethbridge Bulls on Sunday for their annual “Breast Cancer Awareness” game.
