Dawgs beat Miller Express 4-3

The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Moose Jaw Miller Express 4-3 on Thursday night at Seaman Stadium.

The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Moose Jaw Miller Express 4-3 in front of 5,081 fans at Seaman Stadium on Thursday night.

It was the first meeting between the two clubs this season.

With the win, the Dawgs improve to 29-11. They sit in second place in the Western Canadian Baseball League West division standings, a game-and-a-half behind the Sylvan Lake Gulls.

Connor Crowson (Okotoks, Alta.) led the Dawgs’ offence with two hits and two RBIs, while Jarrett Burney (Reinhardt University) also had a pair of hits, including a triple, and a run.

Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.), Jason Arriola (Colorado State University Pueblo) and Logan Grant (Chestermere, Alta.) also contributed a hit and a run each for the Dawgs.

On the mound, Quinn Tocheniuk (Okotoks, Alta.) started and allowed one run in two innings before Garrett Maloney (Campbellsville University) took over and permitted just one earned run in 4 2/3 innings to earn the win.

Ashton Luera (Oklahoma Wesleyan University) fanned two batters in a scoreless ninth to collect the save.

The Dawgs play the Miller Express at home again on Friday.

The WCBL’s Home Run Derby and All-Star Game, featuring several of the Dawgs players, will take place on Saturday at Seaman Stadium.
