The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Moose Jaw Miller Express 7-4 in front of 5,065 fans at Seaman Stadium in Game 1 of the best-of-three WCBL Championship Series on Thursday.

DH Aidan Rose (Calgary, Alta.) led the Dawgs offensively, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Logan Grant (Chestermere, Alta.) also crushed a double, going 1-for-1 with two walks, two runs and an RBI.

Ricky Sanchez (Lamar University) added his fourth postseason double and had an RBI.

On the mound, Garrett Maloney (Campbellsville University) started and allowed four runs in 2 2/3 innings and was relieved by Aaron Hammer (Campbellsville University) in the third.

Hammer proceeded to toss 2 1/3 scoreless innings before Zane Morrison (Campbellsville University) held the Miller Express off the scoreboard for two frames.

Gavin Wuschke (Regina, Sask.), and Cade Herrmann (Bellevue University) also had scoreless outings before Ashton Luera (Oklahoma Wesleyan University) fanned two in the ninth to record the save.

The Dawgs will now head to Ross Wells Park in Moose Jaw to take on the Miller Express in Game 2 of the WCBL Championship finals on Friday.
