BROOKS, Alta. — The Okotoks Dawgs completed another season sweep over the Brooks Bombers on Saturday night with a 14-3 win at Elks Stadium.
The Bombers (13-34) are now 0-18 in franchise history against the Dawgs (34-12).
The Dawgs struck in the top of the first when they sent all nine batters to the dish. Abdiel Alicea (Tabor College) delivered a bases loaded single up the middle to score Collin Ridout (Tennessee Wesleyan University). J.T. Patterson (Bellevue University) followed that up with an RBI single of his own to score Will Hollis (Cisco College). Nate DeChaine (Morningside College) also came around to score on a fielder’s choice by Danny Donnelly (Chandler-Gilbert Community College). Jacob Bouzide (Colby Community College) scored Alicea when Bombers first basemen Lane Fleming committed his third error of the season to make it 4-0 in the first.
The Bombers scratched one across in the bottom of the second when Bryce O’Farrell doubled and scored on a single by Jonny Shields.
In the third, Patterson crushed a ball to right fielder Damian Rodriguez that handcuffed him. The Bombers' second error of the game allowed Alicea to score from second base. Patterson went 5-for-6 after he cranked another two-run double in the ninth.
One inning later, the Dawgs kept the pressure on when DeChaine scored Ridout with a sacrifice fly to centre field. Alicea followed that with a sacrifice fly to right field to score Richard Mascarenas (Linn-Benton Community College).
Jack Caswell got tagged for seven runs, five earned runs in four innings. He walked four and only struck out one, as he dropped to 0-2 on the season.
Keegan Kwong took over in the fifth and didn’t fare much better. With the bases loaded with none out, Ridout singled to score Donnelly. Mascarenas got hit with a pitch and picked up an RBI when Bouzide came around to score.
Cam Doherty (Mesa Community College) enjoyed the early lead and only went three innings. He allowed one earned run and struck out a pair.
Alex Jones (Niagara University) pitched three innings in relief, only allowed two hits and struck out three, as his record improved to 2-1.
In the top of the seventh, Ridout launched his third home run of the season off Tyler Whalen. His solo shot made it 10-1. Two batters later, Dawgs Academy product Ayden Makarus singled to score Mascarenas. Patterson doubled home Makarus before Donnelly grounded out to end the frame.
Before the final out was recorded, Junior Ramirez (Bellevue University) surrendered a two-run home run to Rodriguez.
