The Okotoks Dawgs are excited to share the news that Don Seaman, principal donor in the construction of Seaman Stadium and the Duvernay Fieldhouse, will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from his engineering alma mater, the University of Saskatchewan this summer.

The presentation will take place on Sunday, June 7 in Saskatoon.

Dawgs managing director John Ircandia made the light-hearted observation that with the presentation taking place during baseball season, there is a possibility that he may have to do something that he seldom does — miss a Dawgs game.

Don was a member of the inaugural induction class of the Dawgs Hall of Fame in 2014.

Ircandia offered these comments.

“I was truly honoured to have written a letter of support for this well deserved recognition. As I’ve said many times, in an era of dishonesty and corporate greed in the business world and PED cheaters in the sports world, Don is a true role model of integrity and morality,” Ircandia said. “I am reminded of the Paul Simon line where he laments the loss of ‘old school’ heroes. He asked, ‘where have you gone Joe DiMaggio?’ That’s Don… He’s a Joe DiMaggio.”
