The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Brooks Bombers 13-5 in front of 493 fans at Elks Field in Brooks on Friday night.

The win improved the Dawgs’ record to 39-14. They sit in second place in the Western Canadian Baseball League West Division standings, two games back of the Sylvan Lake Gulls, with the postseason less than a week away.

The Dawgs belted a pair of three-run home runs on Friday. The first was crushed by Tucker Zdunich (High River, Alta.) in the third. Connor Crowson (Okotoks, Alta.) then followed suit in the sixth.

Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.) also had three hits and two RBIs for the Dawgs, while Ricky Sanchez (Lamar University) contributed a pair of hits.

On the mound, Trent Warstler (Emporia State University) started and allowed two runs on three hits in four innings to record the win.

Garrett Maloney (Campbellsville University) and Cam Stephens (Linn-Benton CC) tossed scoreless innings for the Dawgs before Trey Mackwood (Calgary, Alta.) held the Bombers off the scoreboard in the ninth to close out the game.

The Dawgs return to Seaman Stadium on Saturday to take on the Bombers on ‘Fan Appreciation Night’.
